As an example to all future contenders for this, look at how Kinky and Flanker are doing and pacing. Ignore Bobs and Finn, they are ultra running freaks. I went to Walna Scar car park to see people through, which is about 2 miles in. The corse rolls downhill, bends right, then climbs. Kinky was about 5 from the back, Flanker was in the last 100. Most people ran up the 1st bit of climb before slowing down to a walk. They both walked. They are now both in the top half of the field and making places up as they go along. Lots of the people I saw running that bit, and this is me being stereotypical and cynical based on body shapes and sizes, will not finish or be way down the course. Pacing yourself early on is everything. I was talking to Finn about it briefly yesterday. Him pacing it compared to the lower end of the field is different, but he will still have paced himself. At Dalemain 1st lady was inn2nd overall and 10 mins behind the leader. I can imagine a few runners will have seen her (and Bobs who is 2nd lady and currently 26th) and pushed themselves very hard early on to keep up and even stay in front of.

What I’m saying is reign it in early on and try to finish strong.

So 1st lady, Sabrina Verjee, was 10 minsbehind at Dalemain. She is now 11 mins in front at Howtown. That’s what we call fucking awesome.

Awesome, brilliant- best of luck to her

Caught a glimpse of Bobs crossing the fields below the campsite this morning , Then mad dash to pack down before the heavens opened! Its very wet, but I’d prefer that to yesterday’s hear.

Have loads of photos taken right by the start- and a bit of film probably illustrating Dave’s pacing point quite well. I walked up th Walna scar road yesterday, easily runnable, but not at the start of that race, for most mortals I would have thought

Bobs in severe pain. The knee injury she picked up at Snowdonia Trail Marathon a couple of weeks back has come back to haunt her and she's struggling to go downhill. Just called me and doesn't sound happy. Downpour over, am at Troutbeck and sun is out
