Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Little Nemo - slightly broken
Hello swim

I've currently got one of those mini lap counters that fit on your fingers but I'm thinking of upgrading to a Poolmate watch, are they any good? My birthday is coming up so I can use the money towards it but I probably won't be able to afford the Garmin Swim or anything too swanky!

Hey Nemo. Personally I think they're all a waste of money, but lots of people swear by the Poolmate. I haven't heard much positive about the Garmin Swim. I think both Grep and Argie have (or have had) Poolmates. I'm sure someone will be along soon to give you more detail.

Cheers AC :-)

I need something to keep track of how many lengths I do as I can't seem to count when I'm swimming. I like the lap counter but it's not v. comfortable on my finger so I thought a watch might be better for me. Plus it has more numbers to play with in a geeky spreadsheet stylee ;-)

I had a poolmate which died on me, now replaced with a Garmin swim.

Poolmate worked perfectly fine for me as a lap/overall distance/pace counter for about 4 years and you can nicely time rest intervals as well before setting off for the next interval. Also counts strokes and your 'efficiency'.

There's not a lot extra you get with the Garmin Swim (although it's swankier, with a feature that enables you to manually enter drill lengths so you get an overall accurate workout distance including those fiddly/kick etc drills that the motion sensor does not detect).

Unless I'm mistaken or out of date, the Poolmate that allows workouts to be downloaded as well comes out near the cost of the Swim, it's only the basic no download one that's signifcantly cheaper. But you can still review workout data and enter what you need manually for any geekery :-) Think that was what made me decide to get the Swim as a replacement for the defunct poolmate, as I wanted download this time and the prices were similar.

Hope this helps!

I had a poolmate - Argie still has and likes his. I loved my thumb thing because it was just cool as.

I now have a Garmin Swim Watch. It is a very wonderful thing.

I have Poolmate - it's great! I can't count and swim either.
