Morning
Just wanted a bit of advice/reassurance really. On 27th/28th of July I did 5 laps of TR24 then on 12th Aug I ran a treadmill marathon, this week I have felt really off - the doms has gone from Sun but I have no 'go' in my legs ( which I know is to be expected ) however I feel really meh 4 days on. Just generally tired and grumpy - I have been doing steady recovery runs as I feel worse for doing nothing but have binned my usual weights and cross training sessions. I was just wondering if any one else experiences this kind of thing and how long it takes to resolve?
Also the other problem is I don't generally sleep so great, but this week despite being so tired my sleep is even more sporadic than it normally is

yep. I know JUST what you mean Why do you think I do so many marathons
I used to get it about two days post marathon and it lasted 3 days, now its just a miserable 24 hours and happens the day after the marathon

It sounds like you have raced yourself into overtraining (disturbed sleep is a big giveaway). The good news is we all do it. You cannto know where the line is until you cross it!
Easy runs are good, but limit them to small mileage, whatever your usual recovery run distace is.
Usually for me if I get it, I go to bed at the same time but make the last hour light stretching, a bath and relaxing which helps me sleep better and I up my calorie intake by 100-200 cals a day (so an extra snack or a bigger portion of dinner) to help my body recover.
Time and not increasing the overtraining are the main things. You are doing right so far, just keep at it until you feel better. Patience! You'll get some fantastic adaptation from those races once you have recovered fully

I get it after 10k races! Think it's pretty standard for some runners, unfortunately.

All perfectly normal. I usually try and really up my fruit and veg intake to get a few vits in, dring lots of juices, especially vegetable juice. You did a lot in a short space of time, your body is just saying "oi mate, hold on, I need a break". Sometimes it can go on for about 3 weeks with me, and the sleep thing is a real pain too.

Some recover quickly but it usually takes me at least a fortnight before I start feeling anything close to 'normal'.
It's all to be expected I think.
And for what it's worth, my Thunder Run recovery took much longer than any mara recovery.

I've felt that after long target races before. For the first couple of weeks I just took it easy and put no pressure on myself to do anything active unless I really felt the urge. After that I completely changed the sort of activity I was doing, which in my case meant spending more time on the bike and racing loads of short fell races but with no performance target. It kept me ticking over, returns to what originally drew me to running and gets away from any sort of pressure from structure.

Thanks Curly - I didn't know if I was doing right or not. Thing is all the stuff you read says don't run for ages afterwards ( some even say a day off for every mile! ) If I took that into account I would have haad to have 31 days off for TR24 and 26 days off for Sunday's mara - jeeze I would be right back to square one again lol! Think I will just carry on doing 'run to feel' until I do feel better as ironically have felt my best this week after I have come in from a run ( for a couple of hours then it's back to meh again ).
