I wouldn't worry too much about George's language skills Fr. Standing at the gate shaking a bucket of feed generally works as well as shouting 'time to come in now George' in whatever language you choose to use! And you could pat them on the neck or scratch their ears and say in a gentle and kind voice 'knackers yard for you in the morning boy' (for example) and he'd probably be none the wiser that you weren't saying 'you were perfectly behaved on that hack George, well done!'
My mare knew exactly what walking across the field carrying a headcollar meant and had her own way of telling me that she wasn't coming in to be ridden and I could F.R.O. A friend had a similar issue- if the horse saw her walking across the field wearing riding kit (eg jods) the horse often refused to come in but was happy to do so if she was wearing a skirt as that meant it was a quick after work visit. The solution was to keep a skirt in the tack room that could be put on over the jods for difficult catching situations!

If you're up Cumbria way at all, jenny, you could book a lesson at Rookin House. The horses there are definitely not hard done too. They have the kind of quiet beginner horses that'll try to convince you otherwise but they're not. 😂

Oh good grief. I had forgotten about the inability to edit posts, and the need for careful proof reading :D

Mazlin
This is mine. His hobbies include loading himself into a horse box if you happen to leave one unattended, refusing to be loaded into a horse box if that’s what you actually need him to do, slamming on the breaks at the last second in front of jumps and looking pretty yet angry.

Gorgeous Mazlin!
My two favourite horses at the riding school as a kid were the same colour as him.
