Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Aren't they beauties? ๐Ÿ˜‚

And my stables - been here over six years now ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

They're very cute. I like your stables. It's nice to have your own little space on a yard.

I know what you mean Phil.

I've ridden George but it wasn't a comfortable experience for either of us, and it seems a long way down. An added issue is that his owner generally rides him bareback so he's not that happy with a saddle.

Also you have to remember to point his head so that his good eye sees anything unexpected.

I occasionally ride a very elderly mare who only has one eye. The owner won't let the mare be ridden out alone because of this but I suspect she worries more than she needs to as I've never had an issue other than making sure I'm aware all the time of anything that might be on her blind side that she needs to see. I ride the mare on her own in the paddock and most of the time you wouldn't know she can't see.

Doogs - not heard that before! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Fr - I'm not much of a rider these days. Until a few weeks ago I hadn't ridden for over two years.

Will write a proper blog about it all when I can.

BBL - we have a younger mare with one eye at our yard, and as you observed, most of the time you wouldn't know. She was always a lively ride beforehand anyway, so is only ever sat on by sympathetic and experienced riders - think it's just her owner and one or two of the senior yard staff.

Oooh a pony thread! Ace. Iโ€™m pretty sure I used to be in a Fetch Horselovers group but do groups even exist? Anyway, am lifelong horse lover and had my own horses up until 2014 when sadly I had to give up riding because my hip disintegrated. I love your girls Chimbo. Iโ€™m wondering whether to have another go at riding, although Iโ€™m not keen on riding schools.

What about driving, jennywren? I'm seriously considering getting a driving pony. Well dual-purpose driving and companion pony (but don't tell Ellie that we're planning ahead because obviously she's going to live forever. ๐Ÿ’”)

The other two issues are that George doesn't really do amateurs and that English is his second language (his owner talks to him in Arabic).

So a one eyed horse that prefers to be ridden bareback and only by someone who knows what they're doing and doesn't speak English.

Not likely to end well...

I think I could ride - itโ€™s just how to arrange it without it being on an overworked and sad horse (thatโ€™s probably really unfair but this is Manchester and the riding schools are very popular and oversubscribed)
