Wow, 6-6-30m/m at 75%MHR . How fast can your run when you're putting some effort in!?
Does running at that HR/pace REALLY feel like a 7.5 out of 10 effort?

Yeah I'd say that's exactly how it feels, possibly 8/10....I'm not really sure, but taking 10/10 as the last 200 metres of a race that sounds about right. On a Thursday I run that and then run home up a stinking great hill 2 or 3 hours after. Does that mean I'm not trying hard enough?

SSLHP (Shoes smell like horse piss)
so you 'jog' at 6-30 pace?

I wouldn't call it a jog as such, I'd put that level of effort closer to 7:15-7:30 pace...I am not blowing out my rear, but I'd call it an effort as I'm running at speeds I'm not used to outside of races. It feels a stretch on my legs and my knees (I'm 13 stone), 6ft so not a small runner by any means.
This was last years Yorkshire half marathon, I PB'd in 1:28:57 (my only 2 half marathons have each been this one, which has a stinking great hill between 2-6 miles (or thereabouts)
Split Summary === 1) 1m - 6:21(6:21/m) 146/163bpm 2) 1m - 6:39(6:39/m) 152/177bpm 3) 1m - 7:43(7:43/m) 160/172bpm 4) 1m - 7:24(7:24/m) 168/176bpm 5) 1m - 7:56(7:56/m) 166/172bpm 6) 1m - 6:48(6:48/m) 170/177bpm 7) 1m - 5:59(5:59/m) 172/178bpm 8) 1m - 6:14(6:14/m) 170/178bpm 9) 1m - 7:00(7:00/m) 168/179bpm 10) 1m - 7:03(7:03/m) 171/179bpm 11) 1m - 6:18(6:18/m) 169/181bpm 12) 1m - 6:30(6:30/m) 176/185bpm 13) 1m - 6:40(6:40/m) 174/187bpm 14) 0.06m - 21(5:25/m) 190/193bpm
I really struggled from mile 9 or so and couldn't take advantage of the downhill.

If you can run a mile or 800 way faster than predicted from your longer distance times that might make the stats a bit believable (there would still be questions). As it is currently, it doesn't stack up.

Beats per mile from the above race 1133, I'm now seeing around 930-950 on runs at 6-6:30 m/mile effort. I put this all down to training improvements, more miles at an aerobic HR lots around the 135-145bpm range.
I'm as confused as you are, I haven't run a timed 800m but have done yassoo 800s *10 all around the 2:45-2:50 mark, and I definitely have more of a sprinters build than a marathon runner's.

So based on the beats per mile analysis I should be on for a massive PB when I race this HM again in April.
I just can't seem to bring myself to run at speeds that would get my HR upto 160-170bpm or more on my own.

Brunski, it might be interesting to do a test at different paces like SSLHP did: see page 1839 of thread. 800s would probably do.

Neither can I most of the time, but I race faster than I train and my HR data adds up.
My strap has died recently but when it worked it was believable.
As SSLHP said you are 'jogging' at 6:30 pace.

Yeah I could do that. I might do it next Monday evening with a few mates. I could disguise it as progressive 800m or 1k reps, so they don't know they are working to my HR bands.
1k @ 150bpm 1k @ 160bpm ...upto 190bpm.
5k in total.
