Lovely conditions, albeit with a bit of a headwind along the edges for the last few miles - ground soft, but not boggy, and a day so clear you could see for miles (not helpful when attempting to run at speed down the stony track from Longstone Edge). Even the railway section, which usually bores the pants off me, was quite lovely with the sun and all the spring flowers out. Oh, and the long grassy downhill from Balls Cross Farm to Edensor, scattering herds of deer with Chatsworth in the distance, was frankly amazing.

Top race. With it being full in advance and having a reserve list, its strange to remember that it was EOD only half a dozen years ago. Sorry you didn't get a place Flip - it really annoys me when a race is full in advance but 50+ runners simply don't show.

yep pity ,it was sort of on the way to mick and phil so would have been handy . had some club mates and friends doing it as well . I left it to the last minute knowing I could enter dent on the day (which is a wonderful race anyway ) but no mail or call arrived . I had thought about just turning up and if I couldnt get in just running some hills and taking some photos but chose dent . another year . :-)

Glad you enjoyed it FatP, I was really sorry I wasn't able to do this this year. However, my place was up for transfer and we did notify the organisers who did confirm that places could be transferred.
Seems that the message didn't get passed on to the waiting list.
My place was also advertised on this thread by MrsJigs. To say I simply didn't show is a touch harsh although I know you didn't aim the comment directly at me :)

Could I have done any more?

No you couldn't Jigs.

It's a real annoyance to the organisers more than anyone when people simply don't turn up because it makes things harder for them.

It was a lovely event and I enjoyed it despite having to retire at 15 miles after hobbling for 2 to Baslow with cramp in both legs the likes of which I've never seen.

I think I must have got dehydrated or something. Whatever it was, it stopped me in my track half a dozen times before I decided to pack it in because trying the next ascent onto Baslo Edge with shot calves was just plain daft.

I'll be back next year :-)

Sorry you had to cut your race short, Ian. Cramp is not good at any time, but in the calfs in a hilly race, it can't get much worse.
Hope to see you there next year, Ian :)

Ian I'm sure that race organisers factor in a number of people who, like me, we're unable to make it on the day. Sorry to hear about your cramps. Next year???

Most organisers seem to advertise far more places than they can handle, if all the entrants all turned up they would be in trouble!!!

FR, as far as I'm aware they have to apply for a permit up to so many runners. I think this year it was 400.

I'm not taking a swipe at anyone who didn't turn up. It doesn't concern me.

If I can't race, I always call them just to make sure they somehow think I'm lost out on the course and get MRT involved.

2FF, thought you were going to Grindleford, shame you couldn't make it. I'll be there next year as always. Hopefully I'll make it the whole way round!

really fen? . like the big airlines do ? i find that hard to believe tbh and woud be very reticent to blame the organisers of a little race like this who would love a full race- they can't really do alot about folk not turning up (although i'm sure some last minute DNS's can't be avoided) or entering races without much thought.
