I was in the spoons last year for all the race and for quite a while afterwards too. It wasn't ridiculously rammed and we had some seats. I expect I'll be in there for a while on Sunday, if it's a nice day there's tables and stuff outside too.
In the evening I'll be in the Knott Bar on Deansgate to start with, then who knows where the evening will take me.

This sounds like its turning into two sorts of marathon, one dehydrating, the other hydrating!!

So a fairly standard Fetch event then - Good-o
No particular preference for post-event hydration (and with, hopefully, a train home at quarter to three I won't be there for long) but can see the attraction of a venue on the race route allowing us to watch others come home if we're back in time.

I'm driving and not drinking these days anyway, but will try and come along and compare stories with everyone - from a purely selfish point of view, and to save me walking any further than absolutely necessary, as my car will probably be somewhere in Salford Quays, I vote for the one nearest there

How can you contemplate doing anything other than curling into a ball of pain and waiting for the end?

So anyway, I've just found out there are no trams west of Piccadilly on Saturday, which rather scuppers my pland for getting to my hotel.
I'd imagine a taxi would cost me the skin of my arse. Any other ideas? Will a Tram replacement bus take long? Or is Media City walkable from Piccadilly?

Well spotted DG, I'd not seen that. Yeah replacement bus services will be running (see http://www.metrolink.co.uk/pages/pni.aspx). I'd guess, Piccadilly to Media City will take 15mins at the most on the bus, alternatively, £5-10 in a black cab (?). It is walkable, but a little too far the day before a marathon I'd suggest.

Arrrggghhh - I was planning to get the metro out on Saturday (Staying at Premier Inn Old Trafford) and out to Salford Keys Saturday night to go for food - luckily there'll be a couple of us so maybe taxis will be easier! Bit annoying as I'd planned the trip specially as I could do it all using public transport!

Bugger - that complicates my journey out to the Altrincham Travelodge - suppose I should be thankful my dinner plans don't involve going back into town.
And I suppose we should all be grateful that the work is Saturday only.
Thanks for the heads up

SB - Old Trafford will only be 10mins on bus replacement. Similarly, Salford Quays is only 10mins walk from OT.
Andy - if you're coming all the way out to Altrincham I'd suggest looking at the option of the train, as it won't necessarily be similarly disrupted and will be quicker than bus replacement (but not as frequent).
