Turns out you walk past 'Spoons on the way.

How full will 'Spoons be? I suspect very.

I'll be in the Matchstick Man for tea on Saturday night unless anyone's got anything booked...

DG - 'Spoons was one of the two possible options I was going to suggest. The main downside, as I saw it, was given it's pretty much at the 26 mile marker it will likely be full of both competitors and spectators.

So, to the wider thread does anyone have any preference for either:-

1) The Bishop Blaize (Weatherspoons) - http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-bishop-blaize# (location https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Bishop+Blaize/@53.4615357,-2.290187,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xc841591c8ebe5582) - as above I suspect it's likely to be very busy

2) Sam Platts - viewmanchester.co.uk (location https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Sam+Platts/@53.4656898,-2.288619,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x173a986ebba4fd19) - about same distance from finish but in the opposite direction to route, so probably a little quieter, closer to official car parks but further from metrolink (and shower facilities at Stretford Leisure Centre).

I get the impression, based on nothing but a look at the outside of the venues, that Sam Platts might be better equipped to cope with a small group of elite athletes requiring seats. Bishop Blaize looks to be quite small.

I think Bishop Blaize goes back quite far, but I'd tend to agree with you DG (especially given it's proximity to the finish line).

And Sam Platts was recommended by a Fetchie who used to have the occasional lunchtime drink in there when he worked in Salford Quays a few years ago. It does mean, however, I might need to call a taxi from the pub to the metrolink for my journey home ;-)

I intend being predominantly anaesthetised ;-)

My train back to Great Grimsby doesn't leave Piccadilly until 19:20.

Sadly I won't be able to join you all in a post marathon rehydration session...my taxi (Mrs SOD) will be departing from Old Trafford within 20 minutes of me crossing the finishing line. Apparently she *needs* to go to Meadow Hell on the way home...!!!

Does she realise the Trafford Centre is just as big and round the corner? She could go whilst you're at Z-arts on Saturday, or don't you trust her with the credit card?

lol...Oh trust me, she's already planned a trip to Trafford Centre on Saturday..This is fast becoming a VERY expensive weekend. Especially as we're in London the following weekend as she's running VLM. :-O
