El Capitan, my mum + sister will probably be in the spoons from more or less opening time. I'll try and convince them to get fetched up and baggsy a big table for us

Hey, now that sounds like a plan. How big the table, though...? |

it's only 10AM and I've already consumed nearly 200g of my daily carbohydrate requirements....pre-race carb loading and hydrating has begun in earnest.

Chris
I was wondering when people would start with the carbs. Pasta last night for me, plenty of protein with a few carbs tonight and then heavy on the carbs Friday and Saturday. Gonna feel like the michelin man on the start line! |

Putting aside the High Fat Low Carb diet for now that some experts are saying is the best approach, but needs weeks/months for your body to adapt to. Then my understanding of the most up-to-date sports nutrition advice is not to purge on additional calories/carbs in the 1-2 days immediately before the marathon, because as Chris says you'll end up the size of a bus and feel lethargic. Yes, you can alter the balance of your diet so that a slightly increased percentage of food is carbohydrates, but you shouldn't increase the total calorie input. Remember, you should be training a lot less in these last few days before the race, so the additional energy not burnt during this "missed" exercise can be stored in your body, thus naturally replenishing the bodies reserves without the need to drastically increasing calories.

Lol Gus. I'm eating a little bit more carbs but overall calories are around the same I think. Porridge for breakfast instead of yoghurt and rice based dinners rather than meat and veg. Saturday will be an italian though, it's pre race tradition |

I like your thinking Gus! I have been upping my white bread/peanut butter diet for the last few days and stood on the scales with some trepidation at the gym this morning, but found I had lost 1 1/2lbs since monday so feel okay to carry on with lots of nice carbs. Do crisps and chips count as carb loading? |

I hope so, iain. I hope so. I've got to find something from this for Saturday night, quite late. What do we reckon would be most beneficial? hungryhorse.co.uk Or should I push the boat out and go to F&B? |
