Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Do we know any Canadians to ask? Other than my ex? She wasn't a hockey fan in any case.

Another vote for The Guardian to just fuck off (note split infinitive). They've been crap lately and I've removed their app from my phone, I am now an Independent reader :-)

p.s. Please help me to understand how conjunctions can govern inflected cases. I don't get it - is that a latin thingummyjig?

In Latin, a conjunction does not govern a case; a preposition does. Example:

Per ardua Ad Astra = Through hardships to the stars.

Both the prepositions, 'Per' and 'Ad' govern the accusative case. So it doesn't feel left out, the other case is the ablative. Example:

sine nomine = without a name.

Here endeth the snippet lecture. ;)

He was joking, NE, and he definitely didn’t mean it, because then it would be correct to say “Annie and me went to the movies last night.”

Ah, I see. Sorry, that one went straight over my head.

Steve - thanks for that, got it. I'm all about prepositions and cases 🙂
