On the subject of tea, the organisers keep an urn of hot water on the go for coffee, tea, and wine bottles to use as hot water bottles.

I see what you mean Tizer about being on your own, but I think this one might be a different in that it is a 4 or so mile loop in Glenmore forest (you remember that, we ran part of it at new year with our head torches on that was a braw run). You are likely to see people most of the time, it must be good for the mutual camaraderie 'high fives' ;). A long point to point race is where the loneliness would come in, WHW for example. Although I have no experience of such race, it comes down to how you cope with it. I was on my own from about 7 miles at GO33, but then, I like my own company

True Boab, you do see other folk reasonably frequently during the run and of course every lap when you go through the camp. It was such a boost for me to see everyone and to have another lap ticked off.
I found the long hours of darkness the hardest part to cope with. In whw race the nights are much shorter. At Glenmore I was desperate for the sun to come up, the night seemed to last forever... One positive was the fact the race starts at noon so we had a fun night before and a long lie so I felt rested. Much better than starting at 1am for me! And since I'm slow I need the 2nd night at whw but you know at Glenmore when the sun comes up you are in daylight until the end.

Wine bottle hot water bottles! Oh god they were amazing... Every so often I wondered why I had a wine bottle full of Luke warm water tucked under my jumper. And then I remembered.

It's partly for the night running experience that I want to do it. I think the sleep deprivation will be part of the challenge of WHW, so wanted to practice a bit. Hiya Minty, Duchess and mr and mrs s - I'm looking forward to joining all the ultra folk in the family! Minty I don't think my WHW training will be particularly clever, but I would love to get to the start line strong and the finish line in one piece! :-)G

Oh, a second Three Islander - you and _andy doing it together, HappyG?
Hot water bottles, you've just sold this race to me, shanksi! (Need to check whether I'm on the right entry list now. :-o)
Seeing other runners a lot is one of the things I'm curious about. When struggling, I seem to cope best when on my own and sometimes find company a bit exhausting (Don't get me wrong, I love running with you all! However, when things get difficult, I seem to be beter on my own.), so it'll be interesting to see how I manage with constantly changing people around for 12 hours.
