I reckon so. I guess you'd need to be able to bring the half down to about 1:25 or so. Macmillan calculator says my 1:31 converts to a 3:13. I need a 3:15 as a V40 so I am on the cusp so it's going to be a close call this year but by keeping the big training mileage up, I have already decided to set off at target pace and see how it goes. There's always autumn or next spring if I don't quite make it. |

Yeah, the sub 90 half is a real target for me and you need base and lots of it, my training so far has not been great, I am struggling to balance work/life and the long run, yesterdays run was only 11 miles. ![]() Having said that its wasn't a bad 2013, my PB for a half went 1:42:58 to 1:33:20, 10k went from 43:35 to 40:34, 5k went down to 19:08. From what I have found so far with stepping up from 13.1 to 26.2 is you have to be BLOODY fit in order to smash mile after mile after mile out at pace, I would have to run 26 miles at 7:04 pace for GFA and it scares the crap out of me. Ask me to run 13 of them and I could probably just about do it with my current level of fitness, but 26?!?!? ![]() If I am honest with my self then the first thing I should be doing is making more time for the long run, the second thing I should do is lose weight, maybe as much as a stone and I am struggling with both at the moment. |

Was just thinking of shooing the spiders out of this thread. My next effort will be at Brighton, target time not yet decided on. I should be faster than last year's 3.57 at Manchester, but still well short of the 3.20 I need. |

Not sure what time I would need for the 2016VLM, I turn 40 in Feb 2016, so could I do a 3:15 as a 38/39 year old and still get in?

For 2016, we will need to have run the marathon qualification time since 1st January 2014 and completed the application by July 2015 so you will still be a Senior rather than a Vet when you run it. We did discuss early on in the thread about people changing categories and someone rang VLM to confirm. It was said that the age categories were for when you actually run VLM so you may be lucky in that you can run a sub-3:15 as a MS and run VLM as a V40 GFA. If you have time to, go back through the thread or ring them and check. virginmoneylondonmarathon.com |

1:33 half translated to 3:20 mara for me. I am still on board with this but the plan is to take a year off from marathons and try to get a bit quicker at the shorter distances. Sub 90 half is definitely a target and if i can get there this year i will probably look to go for a marathon time in spring next year. 5 minutes to find should be doable. I have gone backwards fitness-wise since Loch Ness last year but i know that a decent P+D campaign will sort a chunk of that out so i just need to make sure i have a good solid base.

Funny, I was only thinking about this thread a few days ago, and BOING! Here it is ![]() I'm still hoping, and hoping is the word. To be honest I didn't put my all into it last year - been slacking somewhat and putting on too much weight which definitely had an impact. However, I'm now feeling somewhat refreshed and ready to go again. Got the Rock 'n' Roll Liverpool Marathon in May, not expecting any miracles there, but hoping to get a marathon in towards the end of the year and if I can get close to 4:15 for that one, I'll be very happy. I'll be in a different age catagory after August as well. Sub 4:00 is my goal for a GFA. Hope everyone is raring to go for 2014. I'm now doing a few sessions of HIIT a week on my treadmill. I purchased it at the end of last year as compensation of having to pull out of Loch Ness due to injury (the money I saved on travel/accommodation etc paid for it). Not a great fan of treadmill but interval training and speed work I find excellent on it. Happy training everyone - and nice to see this thread alive again ![]() |

I'm still in the hunt; did a 1:34 half and a 3:29 full last year... I'm probably going to be fitter come race day (27th April) this year, but may be too heavy. As I turn 50 at the end of 2015, I guess I could get away with a 3:19:59 from here on in to guarantee my place, which is eminently doable, with dieting and training ![]() I love our treadmill for speedwork; much easier to be consistent than out on the road. I have no doubt that I can hit the same pace for a lower HR on a treaddy compared to outside, but it's the consistency I'm interested in, not absolute pace. It sounds like we might almost all be there after all; just need Nellers to get back to it, now ![]() ![]() |

Ooo...just found this thread, looks like the perfect place for me to hang out. Running Manchester this Spring where I'm looking for 3h:29m, then will hopefully kick-on with a good block of training over the summer/autumn and see how close I can get to GFA at York. Realistically I am expecting to miss target at York but should (if all goes to plan) be ready for a real dig at GFA in Spring 2015. |
