Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Well I am the same as Roberto, yesterday I had a GFA place with 3:47:35, today I don't have cos they moved the goalposts. I am 40 and lumped with the 18 year olds at sub 3:45. Who knows if I could have run it faster, would certainly have given it my all to stay with the 3:45 pacer. I thought I ran the perfect race, I nearly even splitted all the way through, second half was only 3 mins slower than the first half. Next year I will be 41 and am intrigued whether this time then suddenly becomes valid - but then that seems fraudulent.

No - it's the age at which you ran the time that counts. So you will need to run the same (or hopefully better) next year.

not strictly true Night Owl - its under 41, hideous considering I changed from a V35 to a V40 this year yet am still with the younger group for the purpose of GFA.

Ok to clear it up for everybody I just rang them. You can apply for GFA status this year on the basis of what your age will be next year on race day. For example I am 41 next March, I ran a 3:47 aged 40 but the date of race I am applying for is the relevant date. Apparently free to apply. Won't believe it till I get the confirmation though.

Ugh, that *is* annoying, Buzby.

Really it should be 40-49. In my expert opinion ;)

Thanks Busby. So that means if the incredible happens (which it wont) and I ran a sub 4hr in May 2014, I could actually apply for a GFA place at VLM 2015, as I would have turned 50 in August 2014.

By the way, don't even know if I'll get a sub 4hr ever, never mind next year - we can all but dream though :-)
