So after all the fuss I can selfishly declare that the GFA target time for my age hasn't actually changed, which is good. Also the time for 50-59 yo blokes has got slightly easier.
Being somewhat selfish and insular, though, I'm not sure how this will have affected the rest of you. Am I right that the women's times have got tougher for 41-49?

It's 5 minutes tougher for the men's and women's Senior category at 3:05 and 3:45. Both 40-49 categories are unchanged and the older categories have been softened.
It may be galling to someone who has just run a 3:08 say, and now find you are short of the target. My understanding is that this is how they were a few years ago then the Sen times were softened but this has allowed too many Sen GFA entrants and not enough Vet ones.

It's strange the difference 5 minutes can make, 3:15 felt too much ground for me to make up, 3:20 sounds achievable somehow, I'm encouraged to take this GFA challenge seriously!

Commiserations to anyone who's target has got harder.
5 minutes easier for me and now need to get 37 minutes off, which feels possible.
Rob I have a grudge against Gosport after last year and may well give it another go.

This may be a stupid question with an obvious answer, but as far as qualifying times go in GFA, suppose I did a sub 4hr marathon in June 2014, but wasn't 50 until August 2014, would that still qualify for a VLM GFA 2015 in the 50 - 59 age group?
I was just wondering if your age was taken from how you will be on the date of the marathon you're applying for, or how old you were when you got your qualifying time. I'm assuming it's the latter, but you never know with these things.

Magpie Rob, that is exactly what has happened for me. I ran 3.08.56 yesterday at Manchester. Last 4 and a half months of my life has been dedicated to running GFA time. Absolutely gutted.

Sorry to hear that Roberto but we do have to remember that the GFA times are a movable feast. A few years ago the SM qualification was 3:00. One of the problems is they never publish them until the current year's race is done and dusted. We are working towards GFA for 2016 based on assumptions of what the times might be - we won't know if we are right until April/May 2015.
There is no requirement for London to offer them at all. It's a method for them to fill the gap between the elite/champs runners and the masses by ensuring a good level of decent club runners.

My target time remains unchanged at 3:15. The dream is back on.

Sorry to read that RobertoM, trying to be positive for you, at least you have an excellent base to work from, I'm sure you can get there in the future.

GFA time hasn't changed for me, still sub-3:50, I think they have increased the women's categories? (previously 18-49, now divided into 18-40 and 41-49).
Though I think the chances of me achieving that in the next couple of years are slim in the extreme.
