I'm no fan of Merson, but you can't avoid gambling ads and they must be a trigger. I wonder is people just don't see it in the same way as other addictions, or more likely, it is much easier to hide than alcoholism (plenty of high functioning addicts across all addictions, I accept). Suspect this will be worth a watch. bbc.co.uk |

It is massively ingrained into football in a way it should never be allowed. But they always add ‘bet responsibly’ so it’s ok.

Isn't "gamble responsibly" as close to an oxymoron as it's possible to get? Gambling by it's very nature is about being irresponsible and putting a stake at risk.

Nobody ever tried to gain any losses back by further gambling, Nellers. They all bet precisely what they can afford to lose. Mostly on the grey horse in the Grand National.

I’ve gambled responsibly. Only ever placed 3 bets with the bookies in my life. The first was in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. A workmate had studied the form etc all morning, we went for a couple of pints and to place his bets. I decided on a whim to bet as well, stuck a fiver each way on a couple of horses whose names I liked, they finished 1 and 2. Mate was livid! Second was a mate banging on about a dead cert racing later, we all lumped on and won. He had another dead cert a week later, we all lumped on and lost. I didn’t bet on his next ‘dead cert’. Net result from these 3 bets is that I am up on the bookies! |

You're not wrong, Nellers. My wife and I say that at every ad break on Sky Sports News.

Just seen the penalty given against England. Another ridiculous decision. A high boot is an indirect free-kick. The ball is there to be kicked.

Hopefully, it won't be just our police that beat the racist Hungarians tonight.

I've had a couple of accounts closed by bookies. They don't like it when you win money off them. Not betting on football or horses though.
