That must be an non-VLM inflated record

Not quite - I hit 67442 last year before the flower watering scoring changed to a less-inflationary model. It seems likely I'll surpass that in the next few days. (DT's post-VLM record was +71000, IIRC)

Depends on how far you go back in the records NDWDave. Back in the day when you could create bug herds the greatest score was something over half a million points for a single run which was recorded by DTs in December 2011.

True VJ - but back then, scores were awarded in thousands rather than multiples of four. Not sure how the two systems compare

The best thing about the 'good old days' was that everything used to reset on the first of the month, so there would be a few hours where I'd be top of the leaderboard as an early morning runner on the first day of the month. And then it went rapidly downhill from there :)

Quick question that I'm sure has probably been answered before, but never mind...

How is it decided where on the map things go? I know if a point is marked as unreachable nothing goes there, but some areas have lots and others nothing. I thought it maybe went on population density (since I am rural and never see stuff outside my circle unless I go to a town) but it can't be. For example, looking at my home town of Stratford-on-Avon, there's nothing in most of the town. My nearest town now (Kenilworth) has lots but is tiny compared to Stratford.

Any ideas?

Items are 'scattered randomly' around registered players (not sure what the maximum radius is but they'll mostly be within your home mile) - if there's nobody registered to play in a given area then nothing will be generated.

So, for your example, it looks like there's only you playing in Stratford-on-Avon but a few in Kenilworth. An easy way to find out is to click on a few bugs - they all have associated owner so you can get a feel for how many there are round and about.
