(Only reason I'm asking is to determine exactly how vital it is you are fresh the next day - a mile can't really take it out of you too much!)

You guys are taking this mile thing very seriously!!! has any one got a trainng plan?? So lets think if for a marathon you train around 70/80 miles a week, which is roughly 3 times the distance of the race, then for a mile you need to train 3 miles a week .... Now that sounds interesting!

I think you may need a few more miles than that Contro
What I find interesting is that Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute barrier on just 28 miles a week.

Lol Contro. If only mileage could be extrapolated in that way! You still need to put the miles in even for shorter distances. Meseret Defar averages 100-120 miles per week and she specialises in the 5k distance!

A doughnut a week for me contro:-)
Might do some intervals in preparation, but with 2 weeks to go, anything I do now is just fluffing at the edges!

But we'll never know if he'd have broken 3:45 on a 100 mile week Blister!

Rach, I assume I would be running for my club. I wasn't planning on doing this x-country the next day if I did this mile race. I thought my legs would be f**ked!
Really I want to do as much x-country this year as possible.

True Rach, but how many people now can run a sub 4 mile on just 25-30 miles a week?

I think you could do both. I honestly don't think the mile would take it out of you enough to trouble you the next day. I'd just steer clear of spikes and wear something a bit more cushioned on the Saturday.
(The guy who was second in Gosport half marathon last weekend in 66 minutes had won his league cross country meet on the previous day!)
