Wow, loads of detail in there Will. Looks great. So for a commission do you use a base model, but then change paint and decals to make it specific for the customer? Or do you have to change actual features as well? :-) G

First go outside in nice weather with the £60 1/14th scale RC car with grandson last week. He enjoyed steering it a bit but preferred telling me where to make it go and watching it doing jumps. It's pretty quick and seems reasonably solid. :-) G

Hi,
I use a base model, in this case an Airfix army Merlin and then do loads of research. The customer on this build wanted a radar dome under the front of the fuselage. I built this from scratch using plastic discs. Markings were ordered from a specialist decal shop.

Glad you like her, but it was a right old faff

Do you ever put figures in for pilot, wince operator etc? My mate's dad was winch operator on RAF Search and Rescue here in Lossiemouth for years. He'd love a big yellow Sea King! :-) G

Hey bud

Yep, I put figures in. Normally pilots, you can buy extra figures such as winchman from model shops

I can report that the 1/14th scale car was successful with the 3 year old grandson. And with granddad! I turned the throttle right down for him and we did some steering and driving around. Then he said, "Fast, fast!" and we did jumps and stuff and he loved that too! I think it's going to be pretty solid. And the two battery packs it comes with haven't even been recharged once yet!

My brother in law was round and said are these the cars you race? I said no, this was about £70 from China. Mine are about £1500 and precision engineered in Europe or USA! His jaw dropped! :-) G

About This Thread

I can't believe that we've got Crafts, Gardening, Computer Games, but not model cars, trains...!

Just don't call them toys!

My particular hobby was 1/10th scale radio controlled car racing. I'm now looking to get into radio controlled planes. We have some Airfix model builders in here and Lego builders too. Any type of model vehicles really! Planes, trains, automobiles... boats, helicopters, anything! Come join in! :-) G
