Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks NE. Out of interest, do you think this is significantly quicker than the out and back on Great End (which is what I wondered about whilst looking at the CT route)?

I think it has to be Stu, particularly if it's wet. The problem with an out-and-back is that it's so rocky and it would be hard to move quickly in descent, whereas with the "loop" you can pretty much run the whole thing.

DT - the runnable alternative to WWT? Straight up LR? Or Foxes Tarn Gully? I Assume you're not nipping down into Eskdale and up Slight Side? ;-)

Not running but walking related. My brothers training for the Lakeland 50. His last biggish Walk is this Sunday, after he did 33 miles overnight last Saturday into Sunday to avoid the heat. He’s doing a version of his own if the Derwent Skyline. I’m up that way on Sunday, it would’ve been rude not to join him. Sunblock, sun hat and lots of fluid ready.

Just going back onto DTs earlier post, I know a lot of people don't use Halls Fell in descent and I agree totally that Doddick is the more sensible and less-impacting option, but all the same I really love scrambling up Halls. I went up there a few weeks back and played the "stay on the central ridge" game for as far as I could, great fun.

FWIW the fastest ever descent I made off Blencathra was on a Lonsdale-supported BG, it was a warm evening, still light and the rock was bone dry - and we came down Halls. Someone else was leading the way and *really* knew the best line, we were down in a jiffy. It means you don't have that run in from the bottom of Doddick of course.

I did the parachute on my first BG attempt and wouldn't do it again. Unless you are an exceptional descender, it doesn't make sense. Nor does that halfway down "Eagles" descent that the Dallam lot do. Still, horses for courses eh?
