Sushi.
That was great fun with fab company.
Thank you
My hands are so sore!
I was really tempted to take eL Bee and DaveA’s advice and use knees and forearms to drive home.

eL Bee!
What a great place. Relaxed, spacious and the route setting that we tried was fantastic. My fingertips are throbbing now though. We did a LOT of climbing considering how little we've done recently.
My journey was fuelled by the remaining flapjack - the freezer is upset about this

Back to our wall tonight. The grading is definitely a bit more generous than in Sheffield.

Our wall doesn’t divide 5s other than as a 5 or a 5+
I reckon that we have a level different e.g a 6b at our wall was a 6a+ at Awesome. But then again the setting style and holds at Awesome is different to our wall. I think I prefer Awesome’s - although new routes went in yesterday which look good and there’s a wider variety of different holds at the Uni. Will and Arlo have been setting and the general consensus is that they set more like outdoor routes.
I think as I mentioned to you though eLBee and V’rap, we’re both quite prone to saying “That’s not a XX” if we can actually climb it, rather than just accepting that maybe, on some routes, we can climb them well! Or that maybe we’re getting better….
They will change the grading at ours if folk repeatedly chat to them about it as not being quite spot on - in both directions, although it doesn’t happen that often.

Obvs the bit about them setting more like outdoor routes comes from chatting to others as we’ve never climbed outdoors…..

When we climbed a lot (mostly outdoors but not exclusively) I had a good feeling for my comfort zone (VS4c) and often stretched to HVS. But I’ve also lead-climbed an E1 and regularly fell off Severes. So much depends on you and what type of route suits you as well as how you’re feeling on the day. The grade is only a guide, surely.

One of the instructors at our local wall did tell us last night that ‘proper’ centres, not just walls inside sports centres, had far harder heading. In particular the Sheffield walls were the hardest of the lot.
