Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Worth playing games with longer time control so you don't have to play every game every day.

6 games completed in the 'newbie' cup already and DaveK has played 3 of them. Game with IanWingfield was very attacking from both sides.

Thanks for the tip about the pencil. Hadn't noticed that until now (it's in the analysis bit for anyone else wondering).

The longer time controls does give that flexibility

Just looking at the Newbie Cup tables. What does the tiebreak count mean?

Basically you get the points each player you've beat has earned and half the points of any player you've drawn with. Hence you've beaten DaveK and he has 2 points so you have a tie-break score of 2 (no one else has scored points so DaveK's tie break score is 0). If you played DaveK again and won, then your tie break score would double.

I forgot about this when we were debating tie breaks but it's a nice was of doing it and satisfies the more data approach Daddy Shark was talking about but in a way that is fair.

“My wife said, she’ll leave me, if I take part in this chess tournament next weekend.”

“So what will you do?”

“1.e4, like always!”
