And today a little fledgling in the middle of the road, thought it was a stone, almost kicked it out of the way then realised. Had to pick it up and put it in the plants on the verge, even though I know you're not meant to touch, because even if mother was there, it would have been flattened by the next car as it was a single track road.

Agree with DerbyT...really interesting to hear about what crops up in other gardens. Noted with interest the comments a few day ago about larger birds on feeders. We have blackbirds, starlings and occasionally a jackdaw on ours. Now I know it's common behaviour.

Mainly sparrows and blackbirds on ours. Some blue tits. Occasional jackdaws and pigeons, but have removed the jackdaw and pigeon friendly stuff because they monopolise and destroy it within hours (nextdoor have a jackdaw nest every year and there is about 20 jackdaws who hang out round there). Also a robin when I put the robin friendly stuff up. Have seen in past 3 jays, 2 long tailed tits and there is a wren who will hop around it but never take from it. Apart from that, not much else. Oh and occasionally a huge rat, but have moved it out of his reach.

Some very vulnerable looking blackbird fledgelings in the garde today. Two parents out with them.

We saw a chiff chaff properly for the 1st time last night. We've heard them. See. From a distance. There was one singing in a tree above us at Ryton Pools.

Can anyone help with identifying a bird I've seen on holiday (Portugal)?
Looks a bit like a small magpie with black iridescent wings and long tail. Back is buff colour, white chest and a pronounced jet black crown.
