I'm pretty sure I heard a curlew... that would be the first of the spring (if it wasn't another Starling!).

Saw a pair of buzzards soaring above the hills in bright sunshine on Sunday. I know they are very common now but I still get a thrill whenI see them.

Totally agree with you, SN. Doesn't seem that long ago that, what with DDT and unscrupulous gamekeepers, they were a notable sight. Same seems to be happening with red kites in some places. But a glimpse of any raptor always gives me a tingle.

I may have an invite from a local birding group to get access to an old wildlife park, now overgrown, which is teeming with bird life - dippers, flycatchers etc. Exciting times! My name's on the shortlist.

They might not be an exotic list of birds, but for our not very bird visited garden this morning I saw at least four robins (they are doing some territorial jousting, but our resident two are still going strong) two blackbirds, a blue tit, a dunnock, some sparrows and a magpie. Not bad for about five minutes. Seriously this is exciting for our garden and equates to it being mobbed!!!
