Seems I did catch one. Only just and 5 very blurred or missed completely pics!
Now I worry it was a martin, although initial impression (And Off Roader says!) they were swallows

(Puerto Calero, Lanza)

Plus a cattle egret last night on the way to dinner, but, first in many years, no camera!
I can't believe it. It was 10-15 yards away as we walked down to the marina/restaurant area. After a fairly long day travelling (think Gatwick with a BA system meltdown), I'd not bothered with the camera, just wanting a beer or two)

2 swallows and a sand martin near Keswick today; not together. And a cuckoo near Braithwaite. I heard him calling, and hung around until he flew to another gorse bush to call from. Got quite a good view, without binoculars.

No wheatears yet, though.

Swallow over houses here in Cardiff on Tuesday, don't see many here, ever .
Reed Warbler singing this morning, about average date. Still no Whitethroat, looks like they won't be "early" in these parts.

Just read on local bird site that Common and Lesser Whitethroats have already been seen within a half mile of where I run. Swifts seen four days ago. Tut! Missed 'em!

I've missed some of the early warbler arrivals this year as I've not been running much along the local river valley where they show up, as everything has been waterlogged. I've missed it rather, I must say. At some point this year the rain will stop and I'll get out there again.

Well, I got out there again onto my normal riverside patch today and heard (and saw) my first sedge warblers of the year, swallows over the lake (not that common there), and a male sparrowhawk hunting along the river, flying about 50cm above the water, I imagine hoping to ambush sedge warblers as they flit across from one side of the river to the other.

This cold weather has to be very bad news for nestlings, though, I can see the cold killing off large numbers of them.
