Two peregrines and a raven in town (Leicester) today - particularly pleasing as avian flu has killed off so many of the local peregrines.

We had a letter through last week letting us know that avian flu had been reported in our area… 😔

There was a pair of dippers on the Drowes this afternoon. It’s pretty high at the minute so landing spots are at a premium. One was on a rock at the tale of a pool. It took off and then dived into the water a few feet upstream of the rock. It surfaced two or three times and then came out of the water to sit on a branch a few yards further upstream. Its original rocky perch was then occupied by the second dipper.

Red Squirrel
A white feral pigeon, bathing with its companions in a puddle. Bit unusual as it had pink across its wings and tail feathers at the back. A galah sort of pink.

Excellent couple of days in Cornwall despite the rain. I see so much more when with Youngest as he’s really got his eye in. Lots of ticks for the 2023 list and two new lifers of ring necked duck and purple sandpiper

Aha! I found this about the pink pigeons: audubon.org So the Bristol pigeon fancier mentioned lives in Eastville which is the next area to where I live. May be one of his, as it looked healthy and its companions were also well-fed. They must have dropped down to have a bathe in a puddle. Hope they got home safely. |

A quick stopover on the way back from dropping Son back at uni. We pit stopped at Walthamstow Marshes in the rain this afternoon which gave us some birds we don't get here, little grebe and a pochard. And a nice coffee in the cafe.
