Something to almost chuckle about --- I saw my first House Martin's of the year this morning! Heavy leaf fall along wooded trails.

I saw masses of swallows on the west coast of Scotland and quite a few house martins, too. Don't normally see them where I live (but can not far away). Don't know when the swallows will be packing their bags for departure, but there will still loads of flying insects around to keep them well-fed.

I’ve not seen, or heard, hirundines for a few days. The resident birds (blue tit, wren, Robin) are thankfully becoming more vocal again

Red kite this morning on the grouse moor; pretty unusual round here.
And a possible swift. But probably not.
Red squirrel in the Lakes yesterday.

I saw a dead red squirrel on the road this week. Never seen one here on the S Wales borders!

Chiffchaff this morning in different place to recent bird. I’m 80% certain I heard a willow warbler while running yesterday

Bird of prey with a white rump, across bushy farmland and briefly sat on a lamppost in Co. Durham - think it has to have been a female hen harrier.
Also cormorant and preening heron on the river Wear in Durham town centre.

Singing chiffchaff a regular on morning walks at the moment. A starling doing a really good curlew impression yesterday
