Today's top sighting was the flotilla of seven Common Scoter (5m, 2f) that have rocked up on the Res today.
DT I have it on good authority that Grey Partridge can be found close to Heptonstall, so not that far from you.
A mate of mine is currently studying the Arctic Terns on North Ronaldsay as part of a research project. His daily sightings list is mind boggling. I'm getting extreme jealously!

Just the usual 2 Canadians + 2 goslings here and their friend, the white domestic goose, who greets us in the morning honking.
Two new sets of mallard babies - hope they live. Ducklings are so often taken here by seagulls, crows and foxes.

Stopped for a chat with an old fella with some classic bins this morning, and now know where to find a local whitethroat. Said it was the first he'd seen one locally for many years, and that the little copse was a bit of a bird goldmine.
Also would have sworn that a grey plover flew across in front of the van this morning. It was only a top-down view - short tail, white rump, white/black wings with 'unstructured' patterning - so no black underside to confirm. But shouldn't they be somewhere north of the 80th at this point? Best guess is a juv BHG?

Sanderling have been seen recently on upland reservoirs in our area. I would think a grey plover isn’t impossible

It's taken until nearly June but yesterday we finally had a party of House Martins prospecting the old nest sites next door. Seems very late to be starting to nest?
Also pretty certain I had a pair of Hobbys overhead. They seem to be being seen here with increasing regularity at the moment. Beginning to think they may well be nesting close by?

Not that I've been aware of but that's not necessarily definitive.

Normally we get them occasionally on their lonesome but this year there are regularly two being seen together which is rare and always in the same area round the area of the village.

I didn’t know until relatively recently but hobby are late nesters. Peregrines will have young by now. The last week in May was always a great time to see the birds in the Peak because the adults would be busy feeding their young
