I just had a look DT my first Chiffs here last year were March 22nd, the Sunday before the week we were locked down. That day there were several calling in the small area of woodland near the house suggesting arrivals rather than an odd over wintering bird. So yes 4-5 weeks, providing we don't get another very cold snap.

Pair of goldfinches in the tree outside my house this morning. Happy to see that in suburban Manchester

First Chiffchaffs locally last year were on 14th March 2020. Before that 1st March 2019, 1st April 2018 (late!), 12th March 2017, 20th March 2016....so....it won't be long now!

They were brave DT. That was the day before the Hobble. Certainly didn't hear any calling round Top Withins that day!

We did Keighley Parkrun before kitchen duty at the Hobble. It was last Parkrun before lockdown and I ran a course PB. Seems a very long time ago now. From memory part of the route is good for blackcap

That seems to be often true of those birds that breed in very remote places. They just don't seem to recognise humans as a danger.
