I've said this before here, but Sheringham seafront on the Norfolk coast is an amazing place for turnstones. There are loads of them there and they come trotting past your feet.

I the Sheringham turnstones - always feels like you could pick one up and pop it in your pocket to take home as a pet
We should be on our annual Norfolk birdwatching trip this week

Up round Widdop res today and there was a very small 'diving duck' on a small pond. Too far away for the bins and it wasn't until I got the scope out that it clicked. Dipper.
If I'd seen that behaviour on a stream I'd have known straight away. Strange how putting a bird even slightly out of its usual context makes it far harder to ID. For me anyway I guess its usual water got iced up and it moved onto the pond. Given how it was up and down it seemed to be doing pretty well.
Plus the first grouse of the year (which shows how little I've been running) and first mistle thrush.
Also wondered if I heard crossbill in the copse of conifers. Sounded like them (from distant memories!) but none visible, and no reports on the local blogs. So probably not.

I think it’s an interesting (and important) point that birds are not always were they’re ‘supposed’ to be or doing what you expect. I once saw a kingfisher fly overhead when I was a fair way from any water and wondered for a few seconds what it was

Yes, as humans have changed landscape, so the poor animals have had to adapt.

Lots (and lots) of snowdrops here and I've got a good showing of crocuses but my daffs are still a way off.
