Now those two birds for a garden are quite something derby t. Cettis singing briefly on river trail this morning and Greenfinches, Song Thrushes very vocal despite the cold wind.

Lesser whitethroat as a garden bird is also rather special, steve45! Impressive list.

I heard a commotion outside at our old house one dark and foggy winter evening. On nipping outside quickly I heard a skein of what were undoubtably pinkies passing by overhead. Even if you count flybys can you count ones you can’t see in the dark?

Was thinking of this thread yesterday when we saw a load of oystercatchers on the beach. Anyway, in other oystercatcher news, Bangor Uni are doing a study at the moment and found one that was ringed in Europe 25 years ago!

I’ve seen mention before of oyks living 20+ years. I don’t think they’re great breeders so they might well have to live a while to replace themselves

Almost forgot, saw a small flock of fieldfare on our walk today, first of the winter. Not seen any redwing though this year

I’d literally forgotten about winter thrushes (and waxwing). Mind I’m counting down the days for chiffs, willow warbler and blackcap

Well.... Probably too late, but could the easterly winds bring in some late waxwings? 😁
