There was one this spring that was like a broken record. It was in the same small copse for a few weeks. Today’s sounded similar but was maybe a mile away. I’ve heard similar before. They give the impression of a bird that’s not quite learnt it’s song yet, which is amazing as it’s hardly a complex melody

All the usual suspects today. Curlews, Oystercatchers, Gannets, Terns, Turnstones, Eiders, Cormorants and Shags. Plus about thirty Grey and Common Seals asleep on the local hauling out rocks

I think I saw the entire South Pennine population of skylarks today - massive numbers on the Pennine Way :-)

One slightly stuttery chiff chaff and four house martins...

Nope :-(

Seen the local reports and had a few conversations (I'm friends with a member of the HB Birders so get the chat) but not an actual wryneck...

Chiffchaff singing well in my garden. Haven't seen any hirundines at all, their continued absence is a mystery. Usually see small flocks passing over my locality during September.

Complete lack of hirundines here too. We had reasonable numbers of house martin long after the swallow had gone but not seen them for maybe ten days

‘Residents’ vocal on this mornings dog walk and I saw one fly-past dipper by the beck :-)

Plenty of housemartins both in the hills and along the river still. There is still a few swallows along the river.

Plenty of curlew and godwits along the river as well.

Still House Martins here this morning but the numbers have really dropped off in the last week. Just a dozen or so today.

A week ago I was up on the Solway Firth near Maryport and the sky was full of Sand Martins and Swallows.
