Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I had 6 screaming swifts tonight, against a very dark towering cloud. If I was them I'd be booking my ticket to somewhere sunnier than Northern Ireland!

Enjoy the swift action all. They’ll be off to sunnier climes very soon

I’m going to post this in the hope it’ll lure them back out again - but no swifts around here this week.

Saw some in Humberside at the weekend but none in Cov....

Usually posting about them not being here brings them back out - I’ve got the back doors open to listen for them. We had some lovely big groups of around 20 flying around last week.

Someone close by has either got a duck in their garden or something that makes a duck sound that is triggered on occasion in their garden. Or I am going mad. Dave hasn’t heard it. It went off again this morning. 🦆 🤪

On the swift question, yesterday evening there was the largest group of them over my garden I'd seen for a while, around 20. In my doom-laden way I thought "Oh no, they're flocking together, getting ready to go". But do swifts actually do this? Or do they just drift off in dribs and drabs? I believe swallows tend to gather prior to departure, but I've no idea about swifts.

In true swift summoning form, not long after posting while on my way out in the car, going down the hill just past the house - five screeching swifts!

I thought I heard a moment’s snatch of scream on this morning’s walk but it was where I’ve heard starling doing a very good impersonation preciously so really wouldn’t be sure
