Can't match that kingfisher - they never stay close enough for long enough when I see them. But - if of interest, goldfinches on our feeder, number 3 in this month's Treasure Hunt ... fetcheveryone.com/blog/43889 (Posting the blog link rather than repost 5 pics here. All in a manic 60 seconds) |

[Hit submit too soon] They’re great pictures um! Watching the birds in our garden so much more during lockdown inspired me to buy a decent camera to try and capture some of their beauty and antics. Your photos are a great inspiration um. |

Careful ER - it's a costly hobby. Lenses/cameras are never quite good enough, and it's always a temptation to get that better, but always more expensive one. Says me planning when to hire / test out 2 lenses I'm considering before buying. |

Have to say for my own use I just have a basic camera for the garden a decent Panasonic Lumix, yes no good for anything long distance, but a decent enough zoom for the garden and far better than a phone camera. Talking of which we have had our first blackbird fledglings in the garden this morning, very happy to see them. Also the LTTs have now been constant visitors for the last two weeks. Fingers crossed they may end up long term visitors. Finally, yesterday had five greenfinches on the feeders, outnumbering the goldfinches for a change |

Um - those goldfinch photographs are brilliant. Really enjoying the photographic skills on here. The birds have certainly stepped back from the breeding and feeding busyness of the spring here. Much quieter now out in the forests and farmland around here. I'm also not having to top up the feeders in the garden every day. Most of the sand martins and swifts are gone. There are a few swallows about but not many. |

The Scribbler
Just had a tiny goldfinch on the sloping roof right next to my window. Its feathers were super technicolour bright. Must have been one of this year's chicks. Flew off as soon as I stood up to get a better view. I hope it comes back.

And after seeing no swifts at all I'm seeing them every day at the moment above our house.
