I saw rooks on the rookery on the a66 between Penrith and Keswick, a couple of weeks ago. It seemed really early.

Rowan at the bottom of the garden is very popular with blackbirds and thrush at the moment. They seem to be stripping it from the top down.

For something like 19 years there has been an overwintering Great Northern Diver on the Res at home. Informed opinion is that has probably been the same one for most if not all of that time. It normally rocks up in November and stays until May. This year in early November a juvenile turned up and stayed but well into December there was no sign of the previous visitor. Finally on Monday an adult appeared and has stayed, looking very much at 'home'. Given that once they settle they moult and become flightless it looks like we may be spoilt with two divers this winter 😀

Whilst i remember, Attenborough has been offered ownership of the reserve for

£1 million. They have raised over £900,000 including £750,000 grant (the maximum possible) from the Biffa Award.

Not birds, but... the pussy willow down the river is starting to appear. This seems months early? Especially since I am up north.
