We had a jay in our backgarden on Friday evening. Definitely a first for us, there is some woodland not far away so I guess it detoured from there.

Over the last couple of days Woody Junior has started coming to the feeder on his/her own, rather than sitting nearby and waiting for mum to feed them but is getting bullied by everything from juvenile Coal Tits upwards. Needs to get a bit more assertive otherwise they're going to go hungry on a busy day like today!

Goldfinch, grey wag, chiffchaff, song thrush (doing a good nuthatch impression) and blackcap on this morning’s walk. Humid but grey - felt like September and glad of my old Buffalo jacket

Just had about 8 great tits in my garden. The adults were going round all of the chicks in turn feeding them.

Squadrons of house martins on the village green this evening - eye level zooming around under the trees - how they dodge around everything without colliding is really impressive

Lots of waders tonight; redshank, oystercatcher, lapwing, curlew with young and drumming snipe.
