Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Currently staying with parents in Devon, always jealous of their garden. The highlights so far have been jays and a GS woodpecker on the feeders.

flanker, song thrushes tend to have quite clearly defined little musical phrases which they repeat maybe a couple of times, whereas the song of mistle thrushes is much more 'vague', consisting of rather tuneless short phrases without as much pitch variation, and certainly not repeated with the same regularity. It is also slightly more 'baritone', similar in pitch to a blackbird (as you would expect from the size).

Patch chiffchaff in a biting easterly with snow flurries. May have over- wintered, but if it's just arrived must be wishing it had waited a little longer.

Nice one Dochard

We went for a walk on the local moor and hardly saw a bird apart from a few crows. Spring is back on hold :(

DT, I think that nature knows better when it's Spring, unlike the daft Met Office. ;-)

I saw some Alpine choughs the other day and their song always surprises me as you'd expect that croaky caw to come out, not their little squeaky chirps.

Dropping back into Seathwaite this morning after abandoning a run just above Styhead due to the wind strength I was surprised, amongst the swirling snow, to spot my first Wheater of the year.
