First swifts of the year for me today, too, loads of them flying over the reedbeds at Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk. Also...a wonderful view of a hobby patrolling the reedbeds, a kingfisher perched in a dead tree, 3 tree creepers in close proximity, and bunch of warblers - reed, sedge, blackcap, garden, chiffchaff, Cetti's, willow.

Saw a photograph today on Twitter of about 50 Hobbies hawking for insects at Lakenheath.
I'm not sure I've ever been absolutely certain of seeing a single hobby. Had a few, "possibly a hobby" moments.

I didn't realise that was today Dave. I heard the birds from just after 4 this morning then I did a race. The birds were darting around in the lanes as I went there, we had to drive through fields of lambs to get to the event then it was running in a beautiful wood on a private estate. The birdsong was lovely and I finally heard my first cuckoo.

Swifts in Buttermere too. Along with a blue sky and excellent mid-run cream tea. Perfect.

Swift's have arrived in Coventry. If they have any sense they'll leave.
Another 1st today, Cetis Warbler. I've heard them before but not seen them until today.

I couldn't be certain but I imagine the hobbies I saw were hunting mayflies. I know they catch dragonflies and damsonflies but there are none of those around yet, but there are loads of mayflies suddenly. Quite an all-you-can-eat feast for a hobby.

Lots of typical moorland/upland sightings for us today - mipit, skylark, yellowhammer, wheater, whinchat, raven, more tiny Herdwick sheep than ever
Pretty sure we had both grey and golden plover too.
