That'll be the stream across the road and the huge pothole gone then
As you say, lucky it wasn't last week!

Son1 got caught out today. Had planned a three day wild camping round of the western fells, but drove to his intended start point of Bowness Knott to find that since he was last there they've installed pay and display machines and banned overnight parking . He reverted to a low level walk round Ennerdale and will replan for next week. I suggested Wasdale Head might be a good start point - presumably overnight parking is OK there.

If he’s an NT member he can park for free.

I was there at the weekend and the machine was not yet in service. It’s Forestry so I’m assuming my membership will cover it.
The overnight wording was interesting though as it inferred you could park but not sleep in the vehicle. Will read it more carefully next time.

Interesting - I'll pass that on as he wasn't intending sleeping in it.

He paid parking for the day today - so presumably they've commissioned it since the weekend

Fisherground campsite was fine for one night. Lots of quite noisy small children, but dead quiet after 9ish. We asked for somewhere quiet so we were a bit away from the big family tents. Most of the other campers had huge tents and cars and barbecues, so not really my kind of campsite. Toilets and showers all fine. No sign of the prison guards patrolling that the online reviews talk about. But a fug of smoke everywhere!
Not wild about Eskdale. We followed a well signposted footpath into a conifer plantation that was at least 50% blown down. Took forever to climb over and under the trees, but we emerged back onto the path so we hadn't gone astray.
We had planned to go up Scafell and Scafell Pike, but decided it was going to be much too busy.

My sister and I are up at the end of the month doing the Derwentwater 10k. Our parents were from Cumbria (my dad was from Penrith, my mum from Carlisle). We are meeting my aunt and cousin whilst up there (we havent been a close family, my parents emigrated to Africa back in the 60's), so this is a whole new experience. I've looked at some videos of trail running in the lake district and bought new trail shoes. It is going to be different from running the South Downs!
