Unfortunately the trail from Roehead all the way to Mardale Head shows significant foot fall erosion compared to a decade ago

I suspect that at some point the impact of the race on that stretch will become a point of discussion with the LDNP. From the start of the climb up Fusedale it's the longest stretch in the race where the nature of the ground means the race is having a significant impact both from an erosion point of view and visually. In the most part the rest of the race tends to be on paths and tracks that are already significant and largely on ground where it has little impact (e.g. rocky paths and tracks). The other place where the same issues are obvious over a shorter distance is across by Blea Tarn.

Totally agree, footfall ain't going to hurt Longsleddale or Garburn.

Turns out i've needed to book a bonus night stay in the lakes having received the final details of Ullswater way race ......... i'd not twigged the early start so had planned a day trip but a 6.30am registration does not make for day trip

It's a a new one NE organised by the same guys as the LL50/100 so you'll find the route on their page but essentially starts Glenridding then clockwise around ullswater ish .......... pretty low level route etc. Full course 20miles and there is a 10 mile get the boat to PooleyBridge option and do the "half".I've prob confused by calling it the Ullswater way ........

That trail round the back of Ullswater is always tougher than you remember. But like the Ingleton Waterfalls path

I did the first Ullswater Way Challenge in October 2016 (THAT long ago ) - I think it was Joe Faulkner's outfit that organised it. Not the same event, but I was surprised at how tough and boggy some of the trails were.

I've done Glenridding to Howtown - with a sprint at the end of the walk because we could see the boat coming for the return ... I guess that's the well maintained and not too boggy 1/4 of the circuit?

That's the bit i've done a few times um but the other direction as part of the Lakeland trails series of races which was nice, after all the rain there's been any parts described as boggy are going to be interesting, i'm looking forward to it but hoping the weather improves ....... surely cant be as bad as the Lap !
