Seeing a Brocken Spectre is one of those magical moments in the mountains. I've only seen the one in Grey Corries about 15 months ago and I was so busy looking at it I didn't get my camera out! SimonF was a bit more on the ball than the rest of us and at least got one or two.

I didn't know a fog (or snow) bow was a thing, so I've learnt something today. No idea whether I've ever seen one of those (without realising it was noteworthy) or not. But I shall be on the look out in the future.

I've not displayed a photo before but think should be the Brocken Spectre photo FF is talking about above:

And as that is actually not in the Lakes, to balance it here's a photo from 2 days ago of Whiteless Pike when my wife and I had a go at a virtual mountain marathon in the North Western fells

That is a phenomenal pic. Really contrasts the sky and the snowy fell.

That's the one Simon. And another cracking Lakes photo from your growing collection. I do miss the ones of your feet though! 😉

Awesome pics Simon.

My only brocken sprectre was on Macdui years ago. I think I still have the negative somewhere so might be able to scan it :-)

Off to google fog & snow bows.

NE I don’t think I’ve seen Becca since BG dinner in 2013. She sold her business and I don’t know where she lives now

El Bee! introduced me to Brocken Spectres from High Pike 3 or 4 years ago - I had never heard of them before that. I wish I had a pic because it was a fab thing to introduce to my science club kids at school :)

BBC4 and iPlayer - there is a new series called Winter Walks - a few walks around Yorkshire and Cumbria. They're easy on the eye at least.
