Ir wasn't their car either ... always easier when you know you;re going to throw the keys to soemone else at the end of the day.
(and even in 1939, it wasn;t unheard of to 'prep' things beforehand, like filling the worst of the holes). But still surprising to see that's what was expected of it - and the number of walkers on the 'road'.

Walna Scar must have changed a lot as you'd never get that past the rocky step near the top on the Coniston side now.
