Beebop, before heading north I was under the same impression about fell races, but in reality they are like any other race with the chiselled-from-granite racing snakes at one end, and the not so chiselled, and actually quite wobbly, at the other. I was surprised not to be in the last few back in my first race and mid-pack in my second.

All - very kind of you, but entirely undeserved praise I'm afraid. I'm grateful for the boost though, I needed something positive after a pretty crap day 🙂
Back on to the point though, I endorse DT and flanker's comments: you'll find all levels of of ability at any given fell race and everyone is very friendly and welcoming. You should give one a go bb, especially based on your YORM time as that's very good.

P. S. yes, I remember that gathering in Harrogate. Seems like a long time ago now

Ah, that sorts the identities out, then! If I only knew what YORM stood for, though. Over to you, NE!

I did wonder if that was it - but I’ve never done it. I did the Yorkshire marathon in around 4:22, which was disappointing - I injured my calf two weeks before - but the Yorkshire marathon is a jinx course for me. The Yorkshireman is a very different beast - if I could do that in 4:22 I’d be delighted and shocked...
