Not all ‘fast, hard as nails, whippet thin athletic types’ but some are. They are all generally accommodating and friendly. I’m sure you’d be welcome :-)

Hmmm. Well, I'd consider myself a fell-runner (others might disagree) and I don't think I fulfill many of those attributes - perhaps it is your imagination :-) Fell-running and the Lake District are inextricably entwined and if you're good at coming downhill there's no better place to test your skills .....

Thanks both. I’ll try to work up the nerve some time. I don’t think I’m particularly nippy downhill, though, it’s just that I’m very slow going up. Be good to try, as it’s currently well out of my comfort zone...

NE - it all depends on your point of reference - I'd describe you as a whippet and definitely nails!

Beebop, I'm never going to be a fell-runner, but I have watched videos on facebook - and come across races on the fells when I've been out. The sharp end are wiry racing snakes - but the whole field can't be described as such,

Agree with you, Rosehip. Northern Exile is bloody amazing, if only I was one hundredth as good. And that is an honest appraisal not blowing smoke up his $r$e.

NE is not only a great runner but he’s really great company, whether it’s on the hill or off it. I might be blowing a bit of smoke up his @rse but very not much

Well said, DT.

And you're a bloody legend, too.

Having briefly met both the gentlemen in question, or at least one of them (my memory’s shot atm), I know they are way better runners all round than I will ever be. So I can’t necessarily believe them entirely regarding fell races and the toughness thereof. ;-)

I met whoever was at a fetchie social in Harrogate a few years ago. I tend to find it very difficult to remember when I meet a bunch of people all at the same time - it could be that I’m remembering reading blogs rather than meeting someone. 🙄 If only there had been a sticker book in them days.

We’ve not met beebop. Looking at some of your race times you’d be fine and would enjoy some fellrunning I’m sure. YORM is a fellrace and 4-22 is a very decent time
