Can't understand how one pedal could be any more efficient - the brake pedal on my car will use regen and/or physical braking depending on how hard and speed etc. Very clever really! Ditto the adaptive speed control. Holding a fixed speed, downhill is "braking" but it's motor braking, so it's regen.

Def wouldn't go lower than 13A (max home rating) for a car charger. It's about the highest drain you can expect a home plug to be doing! :-) G

All the ones listed on amazon were 13A when I looked. That's a full 3kW. Some even say 16A. Ours does 13A as default, you can step it down but have to press buttons when it comes on which isn't much use for overnight timed charging.

You'd need a "special" socket for 16A wouldn't you, as most home sockets are max rated at 13A (and the plug has a 13A fuse on it usually max too)? I think 2.7kW is what ours does at 13A and it gets warm, because it is running for a long time. :-) G

I think the confusion over one-pedal mode arises from the alternative, which historically was often friction braking but nowadays is mostly regen anyway. I don't know exactly how my kia blends regen with friction, I sometimes get a bit of noise in the first few mins of driving which I assume is rust on the braking discs.

I don't think there can be a lot of difference between the regen I use in eco mode (which doesn't quite stop the car) and a full one-pedal mode that presumably will bring it to a complete halt.

Also, you need to check if your house can take a home charger (7kW is 30A approx) and most houses can only do 80A or 100A. e.g. if you have 2x 10kW showers (like we do!) or air source heat pumps etc. or other large home electrical items, you might not get it in! :-) G

Hopefully the charger will only be used overnight when there’s not much else going on. And a modern house will hopefully only trip a switch rather than melt a fuse if it goes over. But it’s certainly something to think about if you need an urgent top-up during the day.

You probably already can’t run your shower, oven, kettle, washing machine and various other lights and heaters all at the same time :-)

So, I've found this for about 50 quid plus postage:

toughleads.co.uk

Three pin waterproof socket on one end, connector at the other, and then, as an add-on, 3 pin UK plug to go into the connector, so the lead basically splits and goes through the letterbox.

Then, if I go abroad, I can add a Schuko plug or whatever.

Look like a decent plan in the interim...

Looks good, even if you only use it at the start I'm sure you'd find a willing Ebay user to take that off your hands for a discount.

I found a set of destination chargers today, available for the public, that were on none of the many hundreds of maps I've been poring over recently. Less than a mile from my house. Sadly, 54p per kWh, but it's proof that things are moving in the right direction.

I'm having quite a lot of fun just now seeing where I can find chargers.
