Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Electric car anyone?

I’m guessing you have checked the rating on the wifi plug?

Most ID3/4 users gave up on car controlled charging, poss fixed with later software updates but everyone was using their home charger app from what I saw

Hadn't occurred to me, as it's built for a 13A socket. I see similar on amazon are advertised as working with kettles (typically 2kW or so) but without a specific statement as to rated current. I'll have a look and see if the plug itself says anything.

I was part way through a post to say the same - not all wifi plugs are rated for the load that a car will draw, and there is general advice not to plug 3pin granny chargers through extension leads etc for similar reasons. That said, it may be something of an urban myth as to how risky it is.

I have a wifi plug on my coffee machine and recently waxxed lyrical about its helpfulness and some people trying the same from across the pond were very wary about it, but that's because their 110v means the current is much higher for heating stuff and plenty wifi plugs aren't rated for that level of current apparently.

16A printed on the plug. I do wonder if our wiring is up to the task but it seems ok so far, that area of the house runs a treadmill that claims 3kW (presumably peak, not when just jogging along) and bike trainers that aren't far behind.

My Cupra Born turns up on Thursday next week. Can't wait, as the car looks fantastic. My boss told me it's turned him into a boy racer. Trying to sort out a home charger, but I'm getting discounts on public chargers through my work. I'm hoping that chargers will be installed at my work place soon.

I've had mine 4 weeks. Absolutely love it, yes it looks great, yes I am now a boy racer 🤣

When charging from 13A plug be careful as it gets quite hot. I wouldn't run it through any extensions or adapters. Each one is additional resistance and hence heat. Make sure cable isn't kinked or stretched to reach and not at risk of being partially pulled out etc.

Cupra Born looks fab JEB enjoy! :-) G

I am expecting a bit of warmth. I can cut the charge to a lower level if I feel like it. I expect I’ll get a proper charger installed quite soon really, just have to do a bit of research and shopping around.

BBC programme on now seems intent on putting people off EVs!

Not saying the concerns raised aren't valid. And it doesnt make good telly to watch everything being perfect.

I've noticed a few vaguely "Anti" WV articles and programmes lately. Is it the oil companies biting back?

BBC is weird on EVs. On the news and so on it's like they delight in challenging them. And it's the same old tropes - not enough public chargers, range anxiety, blah blah :-) G
