Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We have just come home from a couple of days with dad. Thankfully he seems to be over his virus/COVID etc that he has been suffering with for months.

I did notice he was repeating himself quite a bit and he said he sometimes struggles to get his words out, but he is 81 in June and as we left he was arranging a trip to Thailand for him and his friend, along with some other breaks so I think he is doing ok 😀

Glad to hear that. Not sure how much of the repeating is age appropriate. Mum has done it for years. She's 82 soon

My mum also won't step foot out of the door without dire need and/or an emergency. I was wondering how to achieve this, however it seems that forgetting to order cat food on her weekly Asda order (which we do for her) will do it. She made the long and arduous trip to her local Aldi (400 metres) by herself. My ghast is slightly flabbered ..... so it's the bloody cat that's her week spot? Now I know.

I am finding that the hardest thing when dealing with her is an apparent disdain for my efforts and a total lack of thanks. Does anyone else get this?

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
