Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That's good. That's the sort of thing my Mu would be bothered about and it wouldn't occur to me.

That does sound positive Big_G. There will no doubt be lots of issues along the way but it sounds as though he has a good team so between them and you hopefully they will all be sorted.

I am feeling guilty about not spending time with my MiL but she has exhausted my goodwill and I don't think I'm going to be very nice if I see her at the moment so I'm not. :-(

It’s exhausting all this worrying isn’t it?! Fortunately my dad has made (yet another) good recovery but many on this thread must be knackered! As others have said, sometimes you just need to put yourself first LMH for your and your MiL’s sake. Same for others here - please look after and be kind to yourselves.

Grandma has also made a good recovery from her neck surgery. It hasn't necessarily restored any function (still early days and may never improve), but the pain is much reduced.

She's coping well at home with a visit a day to help with cooking lunch. She's walked to the paper shop (about 400 m) with support.

She even gave herself a bath the other day, which mum wasn't too pleased about by all accounts, but she was fine. Still has all her faculties too. I hope she'll live to 96 like her mum.

Thanks guys. I'll crack soon as I'll feel worse for not going to see her.

That is great news G_g.

OH has had to go find his dad who has had an accident in his car. They know roughly where he is but his phone battery has died so they can’t contact him. I understand that he is ok but his car isn’t. He only got it a couple of months ago (had to scrap his old one cos of ULEZ) but I’m not sure he should still be driving to be honest. This might be what stops him. MiL will be on the warpath if he doesn’t.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
