Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Apparently a van hit him and drove away, but that really doesn’t make any sense at all considering the damage. I doubt we’ll get to the bottom of it, he’ll insist his version of events is the true one even if the evidence clearly says otherwise. Nobody was hurt, his falling down is likely stress related.

Well if says a van hit him and drove off then it is a police matter and then appeal for witnesses. If he is adamant it wasn’t his fault he not likely to give up driving any time soon.

I was thinking if the car is undriveable....there may be various unfortunate hold-ups and delays with the recovery and repair......

I’m hoping the same, jda. He’s going to be a nightmare when he has to stop - he goes out every day to the shops just to talk to people - and was like a caged animal when the doctor advised him not to drive for a couple of weeks a few months ago. It’s going to happen soon, it has to, and he lives near us in south London with excellent public transport, so will still be able to get around. There’s the worry about him falling a lot but to my mind if he has health issues which are causing him to fall/pass out/whatever then he shouldn’t be driving either.

Well yeah that’s true Paula. Any sort of mini blackout could have taken place while driving. Just thankful no one was seriously hurt.

OH got home in time to see the last 3 mins of extra time. It’s been a very stressful evening all round but everyone is home safe now and we’ll have to deal with all the fallout in the next week or so.

Sorry to read this Paula. I hope that he will see sense about driving but if not have you considered contacting the DVLA and expressing your concerns?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
