Well you are Zorbs! I'm not going to it until I can get my 5K down to somewhere near yours and give you a run for your money. You're miiiiiles ahead just now!
But, yeah, everyone, go volunteer! Some confusion about volunteering from chat with fetchies at weekend. Parkrun volunteering is the least commitment you'll ever make! You volunteer to help, you can confirm or volunteer as late as a day or two before and there are loads of jobs for shy folk (like me!). You can be tail runner, take down the signage, hand out the finishing tokens, anything really.
If everyone who takes part also volunteers, once or twice a year, then the event has enough to cover it for the whole year (rleyton or someone can confirm my maths here?!) It's free, it's regular (for those lookingn to improve) and it's YOUR parkrun. So do it, do it, do it!
Thanks rleyton and whoever organising the Edinburgh one (who are the Edinburgh organisers?) :-)G

Yes, I am, Zorba.
The volunteering commitment seems to be very low indeed... I had signed up with the organisers after speaking to rleyton at the last Scottish Fetch Mile and was looking forward to hearing from them, but they didn't even contact me - only saw when it's going to start on here.

spicedapple - Not sure why your details got lost - definitely sent them on. Drop a note to EdinburghHelpers@parkrun.com - I *think* there's a volunteer meeting this evening (7th Sept) to get a few other bits organised, but don't worry if you can't make it. I'm sure they'll be in touch. Fmail me if not.
HappyG(rrr) - Maths is roughly right. 3-4 for regular participants is a bit more like it, but if you're running every few weeks a couple of times a year should cover things.
Every volunteer task is different, and are all very easy.
But I have to confess I do get a bit sad that out of the almost 2000 runners who've taken part at Glasgow parkrun, we've "only" got about 200 on the volunteer books at Glasgow, and of them, probably only about half have ever volunteered. If you live far away, or have other commitments, that's fair enough. But if you live close by, just helping out once - perhaps when you're racing later in the day - would be all that's needed.
I like to paint it that parkrun is a community event, run by the running community, for the running community. It'll only survive (and grow) as long as people help out. Give as much as you can or want to, but please give something (even if it's just to pat a volunteer on the back and say how much you appreciate them). There are some of us on the core team (ie. race directors and volunteer organisers) who perhaps give a little more, but we're happy to do so, and we're always happy to have folk step up and get involved. The more the merrier.

Sorry for the triple-post ,though I genuinely AM excited about Cramond...all the points made about volunteering are ,of course, well made *goes off to examine conscience for not volunteering thus far*......in that regard,I humbly suggest a Parkrun Xmas soiree / swally somewhere convenient and that is an event I WOULD gladly be willling to assist in organising...!
